• 2017 Group Photo on stage

Good day, all,
Following the cancelation of Combo Camp XX, we have been hard at work dreaming up a one-day live event we could offer, not just for those who registered for camp,  but for all who are interested. Here's what we are planning:
Date: Monday, June 22
Time: 2-4 PM
Location: Bengtson Auditorium, Live streamed
Join UNI Combo Camp faculty members Christopher Merz, Michael Conrad, Robert Dunn, Anthony Williams, Alexander Pershounin, and Josh Hakanson for a clinic for everyone interested in becoming better jazz musicians. The group will perform, present on various jazz related topics, and answer your questions (submitted via this form: https://forms.gle/CB3gcMozu7Nz4BLf9). Participants may also ask questions during the event using the comments section of the YouTube video during the live stream. The event is aimed primarily at high school students, but is open to anyone interested in sharpening their jazz performance skills.

It is with great sadness that I report the cancellation of UNI Combo Camp 2020 due to logistical complications related to COVID-19. This was to be our twentieth year, complete with the wonderful symmetry of occurring in the summer of 2020. Unfortunately, it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel for this year.

However, we are committed to returning in June of 2021. The dates will be June 20-25. Camp will open with check in starting at 1 PM Sunday and close with the final concert, scheduled to finish at noon on Friday. Students who are currently registered for the camp will have the opportunity to reserve a spot for 2021 now. This will be particularly important for saxophonists, as slots for this instrument fill up rather quickly. Students who preregister will lock in the current tuition rate of $550 for resident campers, $400 for commuters. Prices will be going up slightly, so register now and avoid the increase.

In addition, the faculty is currently brainstorming about an online offering at some point during the summer, most likely via facebook live. This event would be free of charge for all who wish to attend, and will feature performances by some (or perhaps all) of the faculty, as well as answers to questions submitted by viewers. More information will be posted here in the near future.

In the meantime, keep practicing! We hope to see you all in June, 2021.

All the best,

Christopher Merz
